Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 has introduced an array of new mechanics, map updates, weapons, and items. Players can now explore updated vault locations, experience a revamped loot pool, and engage with fresh gameplay dynamics. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of all the major changes.
New Vault Mechanics and Locations
Vault locations have been updated and are now marked on the map. These vaults can be found at both new and returning Points of Interest (POIs) such as Masked Meadows and Cport City. To access a vault, players must place a thermite charge on the vault door. Over time, the vault will break open, triggering waves of guards that must be eliminated.
Throughout the map, especially near vault locations, players can find Heist Bags. These contain loot and guaranteed thermite, essential for accessing the vaults. Shooting the glowing red portions of the vault door speeds up the unlocking process. Once inside, players can collect loot, Dill Bucks, and gold by destroying everything in the vault.
A similar mechanic applies to the train, where players need to destroy turrets and place thermite to break inside.
Dill Bucks and Black Market Locations
Dill Bucks resemble medallions but function as a currency. Players can use them, along with gold, at Black Market locations to purchase additional loot. These Black Market locations are marked on the map like vaults and the train.
The main boss of the season spawns at random vault locations. His position is visible on the map before players exit the Battle Bus. Eliminating him rewards players with the Mythic Mammoth Pistol and a medallion that grants the Gold Rush effect.
Gold Rush Effect and Medallions
The Mythic Mammoth Pistol deals 102 damage per body shot and 178 per headshot, making it a powerful addition. The Gold Rush effect enhances sprint speed, applies a knockback effect upon impact with opponents, and increases pickaxe swing speed.
Players can also obtain the Gold Rush effect from gold splashes, which heal over time, and from a new Gold River biome. Unlike the Nitro effect from previous seasons, this does not provide unlimited sprint or fall damage immunity.

Boons and Gameplay Adjustments
New boons have been introduced, though not all were available at launch. These include:
- Vulture Reveal – Displays enemy elimination locations on the map
- Gold Ammo Boon – Provides ammo when collecting bars
- Gold Rush Boon – Grants Gold Rush upon opening or destroying chests
- Adrenaline Rush Boon – Grants unlimited sprint for a short duration after mantling or hurdling
- Greed Boon – Increases gold rewards from eliminations and containers
The floating island returns in the fourth zone, now dropping a Shield Bubble Medallion and the Mythic Hollow Twister AR instead of the previous invisibility medallion. While the shield bubble effect can be helpful, it does not significantly impact gameplay compared to last season’s medallion.
Meta Shifts and Weapon Strategy
The Mammoth Pistol is one of the most significant additions, offering high burst damage potential. The Kneecapper Bat provides an alternative to the Typhoon Blade but is notably weaker. The Subzero Combat Kit’s slide ability can negate fall damage but is not expected to be widely used.
Players will likely see a similar meta to last season, with a few adjustments. The Sentinel Pump, Hollow Twister AR, Bat, Heals, and Shockwaves remain dominant choices. Players replacing the Typhoon Blade with the Kneecapper Bat may need to adjust their playstyle accordingly. The Mammoth Pistol and Falcon Eye Sniper could emerge as strong secondary weapon options.
Several weapons teased in the season trailer, such as the dual-wield shotgun SMG, have yet to be added and will arrive in future updates.
